I know you want to start things out right and have a successful affiliate business promoting reputable affiliate programs. Nobody wants to market low quality products that can tarnish your image in the online world. It's absolutely necessary to pick ecommerce affiliate programs of the highest quality.

It's your responsibility to do your research and choose only reputable affiliate programs. Make sure your questions are answered and you feel comfortable with your choices.

There are some key questions that must be answered to your satisfaction when finding only reputable affiliate programs.

What does it cost to sign up as an affiliate?

Don't pay a fee to become an affiliate. Almost all reputable affiliate programs will cost you nothing to join. Why in the heck would you want to pay a fee when there are so many free to join affiliate programs!

When am I going to get paid?

Reputable affiliate programs usually pay monthly or every two weeks. With all the choices you have, don't market ecommerce affiliate program that pay you quarterly or even longer.

My feeling is that this merchant really doesn't have the interest of their affiliates in mind. This same attitude will probably show up in other areas of their online affiliate programs. They are where they're at because of the efforts of their affiliates and if they don't recognize that, then stay away.

How is the merchant's conversion rates?

Most reputable affiliate programs will provide you high conversion rates on their products and services. One reason could be that the product is in demand and high quality. But also because they have written and tested a sales page that converts the prospect.

When you decide to join a program, read their sales page all the way through.

1-Does it have a headline that gets you interested in wanting to read more?

2- Does it push your emotional buttons?

3-Are there testimonials? They are important to assure the potential buyer that they are going to get what the product says they will get.

4-Do they offer a guarantee and an easy purchasing process for the product?

5-Does it make you want to pull out your credit card and purchase right away?

If you can answer yes to these questions, then you can feel good that others will react to the offer in the same way. Remember, you only have the job of driving traffic to the sales page and then it is up to the merchant to do their job and close the sale with a powerful offer.

What's their tracking system like?

Reputable affiliate programs have solid tracking systems, so you will be rewarded for the sale. I'm not going to get into the details of how tracking works, but just to say that most visitors aren't going to buy on the first visit, but will most likely come back at a later time to purchase the item.

Reputable affiliate programs will do their homework to make sure they have a reliable tracking system. These merchant's really care about serving their affiliates because they know how important they are to their business.

Do they have a means to viewing your affiliate statistics at any time?

Top affiliate programs will provide you access to your own affiliate statistics page. This is so you can know how your promotional efforts are going. Important stats like hit's to the sales page and sales of the particular products. By tracking these and other stats you can maximize your promotional efforts and make more sales.

Reputable affiliate programs have a solid company and quality products. Do the research and make sure you are dealing with an honest and upfront online retailer. There are many scam artists out there that appear to be reputable, so be aware and do your homework, so you don't get burned.

How are they going to compensate you? Do they offer a one tier or two tier structure?

Reputable affiliate programs could offer one of these two plans based on what they are selling. In a one tier model you get paid for the one time sell only.

A two-tier program pays you for the business, plus it also pays you a commission on the sales generated by any affiliate you sponsor into the program. Some two-tier programs may even pay small commissions on each new affiliate you sponsor. Kind of like a recruitment fee.

Last but not least, what are the commission percentages they are willing to give you for your efforts. Again reputable affiliate programs value their affiliates and are willing to spread the wealth. A good percentage would be at least 50% or higher. Although I say this, you should view what they are willing to offer you and if you think it's fair, then go for it.

In summary, reputable affiliate programs are all over the web. With the right information and research you will avoid the scams and be able to market the products that will build your successful affiliate business.
