Well, if you want to make money online you must also perform certain routine steps consistently. That means you have to follow the ten tips in this article religiously. It's been my experience that people who are truly passionate about whatever it is that they're involved with have a level of determination, discipline and commitment that most people simply don't have. It has been said that "the greater someone's passion, the greater their level of success." I believe that to be absolutely true. If you're not passionate about what you're doing, you're merely spinning your wheels!

4. You have to believe in what you're doing. There's an old saying that states: "faith can move mountains." Now if that's not having faith in your ability to get the job done, I don't know what is. Bottom line: To make money online, you have to believe in what you're doing!

5. You must follow-up with prospects. Did you know that the average e-commerce website has a conversion ratio of around 1 percent? That means 99 percent of visitors to your website will leave without purchasing anything. That's why following up with your prospects is so important. If you're serious about making money online, you absolutely, positively must collect your visitors names and e-mail addresses so that you can follow-up with them at a later date.

Before I was able to make money working online, I was in sales.

Early in my sales career I was sitting with a prospect. My sales manager had come along to observe and critique. I had all my brochures and facts and figures and knew all about my company and product. As I sat there with the prospect, I spat out all kinds of information, thinking I was going to impress my target into signing right then and there. After my presentation I was anticipating the big close, when I got my first big disappointment. The prospect shook my hand, looked at me with disinterest and simply said, "I'm not interested."

What went wrong, I asked my manager. I told the prospect how great we were, how my product could help him, why his life would be better with it. My sales manager gave me an answer that I still carry with me to this day:

"You didn't earn the right to ask for his business."

Huh?

I never established a rapport with him, I just went straight for the kill. I hit him over the head with so much information, that I lost him half way through. By not establishing that all important rapport, I didn't gain his trust.

Think about that when you are trying to make money being online. It is no different, except that you aren't sitting face to face with your prospect.

A lot of times we run an affiliate campaign and all of our links head straight to the pitch page. We have a website and all of our links point back to that where the prospect proceeds to get information overload.

What are you doing to first build and gain the trust, to establish that rapport? What can you do since you may only have one chance to get the business?

Give something away.

Prospects love to get free information...after all, that is what most people use the internet for...free information. Make use of this well known fact and turn it to your advantage.

Find a digital product you can offer free, either an e-book or software that your prospects would find useful and could get excited about. There are plenty of free software and e-book sites on the web, just make sure they are trusted sites before you download anything.

Set up an "opt-in" page tied in to your auto-responder campaign and market that page in all of your promotions, instead of your actual website. You are going to direct your prospects to enter their name and email to get on your email list before they can download the information.

Now you have an opt-in subscriber added to your list that you can build a rapport with. Set up a campaign through your auto-responder to send out emails on a regular interval to build that trust. You might offer insights, other valuable offers, what have you, but gain that trust. What you are doing is letting them know you are there to help them solve a problem or achieve a goal. Then after establishing that rapport, after a few emails, show them how they can solve that problem or get what they want by directing them to your website or product.

Research has shown that on average it takes 7 contacts for someone to make a buying decision. If you are just directing people straight to your site and not capturing their information for an email list, you are losing a lot of potential sales. Likewise, if people get to your site but there is no incentive to sign up for an email list, you are losing a lot of potential sales as well.

In the world of internet marketing, it is good to be a giver. Most of your competitors are doing it. They know it works. Offer something useful, earn their loyalty, gain their trust and the sales will follow. Trust is everything!

That might sound like a strange title for a post, but I guess that's one of the secrets, getting your attention!

The four letter "F" word that I'm talking about avoiding is not the one that we giggle about as kids, or that some use as an expletive in adulthood. But it's effect on your home business opportunity, mlm or other online venture can be equally as alarming.

The word is "Free".

I'm not saying that you can't make a great deal of money online using free tools and information that is freely available online, but my own experience is that success has been directly related to what I have actually coughed up out of my wallet. Why is this?

Well, for starters, we say that we're looking for a business. Whether its a turnkey home business for moms or a home business for baby boomers, doesn't really matter.

Now I've been self-employed for the majority of my life, but I have never owned a business, online or offline, that has been free. And, quite frankly, I wouldn't want to. It's the investment - cold hard cash - that keeps you on the straight and narrow.

It's the cash that you depart with that ensures that you treat your venture as a business, and not a hobby. It's the bank manager breathing down your neck and treating you like you should be Rumplestiltskin, spinning his straw into gold.

I think its got something to do with the value we place on the things we spend money on. I don't know if you relate, but I've found that the online ventures that I have participated in that have been free seldom held my interest for long enough to get anything out of them.

I also think that the free methods, systems and tools we have available have contributed to the online marketers disease of JFPTP syndrome. And what is that? I'm pretty sure you'll know it when I explain it. Its the "Jump From Pillar To Post" Syndrome.

The incessant dabbling with any and everything that passes into our inbox, in the vain attempt to find the legitimate make money online ways that are going to fill our bank accounts and allow us to work at the kitchen table in our underwear. Although, for many of us that wouldn't be a very pretty sight anyway.

It seems to me that if you invest in something, you are in turn responsible for justifying your expenditure, so we go to greater lengths and exhaust all avenues before we ever dream of giving up. Personally, I've come across many a residual income home business where I've spent a fair chunk of cash on a program, particularly online, and I seem to stick at it and milk it for all its worth.

There's self-esteem at risk here, I don't want anyone to think that I've flushed my money down the proverbial toilet. So I work the system until I can no longer do so, and can gracefully depart with my tail between my legs, but at least with my dignity and integrity intact.

And I have also found that it doesn't really matter what program you are following, it's not the program that decides whether you will succeed or not, it's the system that you use to make the program work. I guess what I'm saying essentially, is that the answer is in the marketing.

It's been said many times before, but I'll just remind you here. Do you really think McDonald's makes the best hamburgers in the world? I think not. I'm sure you have a local small business that makes far superior hamburgers. If they could only plug into a marketing system like McDonald's use, they would have success spilling out of their every pore. It's the systems that work, or to put it in one word, duplication.

So next time you come across what you think is the next, best, latest, greatest thing to make you rich, spewing money like a faulty ATM machine, take a step back. Look outside the box. If it belongs to the four letter word brigade - it's free - that's probably about what it is worth.

Look for duplication. Your aim is obviously to get other people involved. Is this something that you can see other people getting value out of? Because that's what it boils down to. Operate your own home business opportunity, mlm or whatever venture you are involved with keeping in mind that your fastest way to success is by helping others.

Sounds cheesy, corny, whatever I know, you've probably heard it all before. But I just thought I'd repeat it again, because it's just so true, and maybe you just haven't listened properly yet.

People often ask me: "What's the best thing I can do to profit online?"

I've never been one to beat around the bush so I say, "Do you really want to know or are you just asking!".

At this point they might say something like, “What's the secret?!”. I tell them that there is no secret! I tell them that they need to provide value before they can expect people to give them money! It sounds like common sense but I'm still amazed at how much people will do without educating themselves first. They want results and they want them now. They don't want to learn they just want money...now! I try and tell them "It doesn't work that way! You have to be willing to spend $100 on the odd course to add to your knowledge so you can have something to teach people that buy from you, you have to build your value so you can be attractive to your buyers.

Now I'm certainly not suggesting you buy every Online Top Tips Secret Course tomorrow! But what I am saying is that it pays to invest in your education.

So the topic I'm going to cover today is “How to Profile Online in Five Steps”.

1) First of all, you're going to need something to market

It sounds simple doesn't it? Unfortunately, this is where most people get lost in a flurry of endless useless activity.

They get lost in all of the information that is out there. They don’t spend enough time marketing, but spend too much time choosing a product that's "perfect", then when it doesn't market itself they wonder why they haven't made any money! Then they'll say it didn't work!

IT doesn't work YOU work! YOU have to market it. You have to put in some kind of effort before you call something a scam and say that "It doesn't work!”.

So when you're choosing a product to market, don't get caught up reading reviews from people that were too lazy to work. They call everything a scam because it will always be useless to them. They get mad about that and instead of making an effort to actually promote something of value, they'll charge you $25 to read their special report on "What Your Upline Won’t Tell You!" Ann Siegel fans beware!

At this point, I also feel that it is crucial to mention that promoting your own products is probably not a good idea if you're new to internet marketing, or if you haven't made any money from it yet!

Selling your own products takes a lot more time, energy and money and as a newbie you'll be hard pressed to create something that people will actually want to buy, so take note! A lot of people get all emotional at this point and think that something's great because they created it!

Don't trust yourself until you have made some real money! You'll be thanking me later when your experience promoting others’ products puts you in a position where you can sell an E-book and some Recordings for $97 and sell 100 to your list just by sending out one email. Your list will grow naturally if you follow the steps provided in this email. You'll also feel confident charging such a price because you'll know that the value you're providing is worth FAR more than $97!

So, ideally you would pick two programs that you would feel comfortable talking about in depth. Companies that you can be passionately and genuinely enthusiastic about. This point is crucial because your job is going to involve you talking about them A LOT, so do your research and take your time until you find something that suits you personally.

Don't be tempted to skip this point and just pick the first thing that catches your eye! If you get stuck, take some time out from your computer for a while, sit down with a pen and a piece of paper and write down what your main interests are so that you can look for a product that complements your true nature. Take some time because it will pay off handsomely later :-) Plus you want to make sure you come across as congruent.

I feel passionate about promoting GRN and The LGN because I love travel and all the other fabulous re-sell rights I get with those companies. I do well promoting these companies because people sense that I believe that what I'm promoting is valuable. If you believe that what you're promoting is valuable then the only thing that could possibly block you from achieving financial success online is … laziness!

So after you've done some thinking and you've worked out what you'd like to promote, you need to ensure that you have at least two different price points. This is crucial because some people will want to be in a high ticket program ($1000 + commissions) and others will have a negative attitude to making high ticket commissions because they don't have money and they can't imagine having any! This attitude turns them away from the more advanced high ticket programs.

Some companies like Global Resorts Network have a joining fee of $1500 or $3000 if you want the product too, however, if you don't want the product you can just join as an affiliate for $100 and this caters to the lower end of the market whilst still giving them the opportunity to make $1000 commissions on their front and back line sales :-) I would still recommend having a lower priced product too for $200 or so, that way you're completely covered and you can cater for those who either cannot afford the high ticket programs, or are stuck with their negative thinking (as mentioned previously).

2) By now you should have your two different products to market and you can move on to the fun stuff which is “Branding Yourself” :-)

Branding is crucial in this industry and is becoming more and more important across the board in all industries as time goes by. It is about building relationships with others. Branding yourself makes people feel like they know you. When they feel like they know you, they trust you, and selling is all about building and keeping trust. You'll need to deliver valuable content to them consistently, beginning with a free email course that you can set up via your auto-responder. There is a lot of debating going on about how often you should mail your list and I would recommend no more than once a day, as less is more sometimes - especially if you find yourself doing it for the sake of doing it! Have a day off here and there to keep your messages and videos useful to your customers. My motto is: “If it doesn't give people value as soon as they read it, whether emotionally, spiritually, physically or financially, then DON'T send it! As long as you're delivering valuable content that they can put into practice immediately in some way, shape or form, then they'll always be happy to receive emails from you :-)

Use tools like Wordtracker at www.wordtracker.com to explore which search terms your potential customers might use to find you. Then you'll want to write a blog with one of those terms as the title. As you write, think of how you can impart value to the reader. Use the same techniques that you use when gathering information for a video or article. Read other popular blogs to get an idea, or maybe watch a few popular videos on the topic you want to write about, and tie your content into theirs. If you can, find a very popular video or article that has over 1000 views and then expand on what they had to say, almost as if you're finishing a soap after the frustrating "To Be Continued" sign comes up at the end! lol That often gets you a lot of traffic because you're filling in the gaps for people :-) They really appreciate that!
